Many of us have embraced a new kind of interior simplicity, inspired by Scandinavian calm and clean and Instagram-worthy interiors. Our homes are beautifully streamlined, with neutral tones, open spaces, and flowing design that promises peace and clarity. But minimalism, with its blank walls, neutral tones, and pared-back furniture, promises calm, leaves our spaces feeling a little too empty and cold. Your home deserves to be so much more, a place to reflect memories, energy, and life. And we're advocating why now is the perfect time to bring depth and character back.
Sparking Joy
In post Marie Kondo life, it made sense. We were decluttering our lives, rejecting the compulsive need to buy stuff that we saw on TikTok or anything that didn't bring us 'joy'. We were seeking to not buy into the trick of over consuming, decanting perfectly packaged items into other plastic containers, labeling juice in clear plastic bottles instead of just leaving it in the carton that it came in, buying items in every colour they came in despite only needing one. But in this rejection of consumerism, we took it a little too far and in the process confused emptiness with elegance, stripping things back until there was nothing left to love. White walls. Beige sofas. One perfectly placed coffee table book. No colour, no character, nothing out of place. And while there’s beauty in restraint, there’s a difference between simple and soulless. The truth is, a space doesn’t have to be loud to be alive. But it should feel like you and not a furniture showroom.
The Return of Style
Style is returning, not as clutter or Tiktok novelty, but as something richer, layered, and full of interest. After too much of blank minimalism, we’re craving interiors that feel like we actually live in them. Homes that carry the beauty of memories. Rooms that reveal themselves the more you look at them, with detail, texture, and soul. The depth, detail, and comfort that comes from surrounding yourself with things that you love. This kind of approach to interior style creates something lasting, a home that reflects who you are.
Effort is the New Luxury
In a world of fast and throwaway, the effort you make stands out even further. The linen cocktail coasters you hand-stitched. The side table you found at a flea market and painstakingly restored. The antique lamp that you brought back from Morocco. These are the things that matter. They bring story, texture, and layers into your space. And that’s what makes a home feel alive, not just big-ticket designer pieces, but small, very specific choices.
Decorate Like You Mean It
When someone steps into your home, let them feel it's yours. Hang the slightly controversial conversation starter art. Light the bougie candles. Use your favourite glasses for anything from iced coffee to aperol spritz. Fill your space with layers, fragrance, music, and light. Surround yourself with things that aren’t just pretty, but personal.
Minimalism taught us how to edit. Now it’s time to add the feeling back in.
