We have expensive taste, and we're betting that you do too otherwise you wouldn't be here. And whilst we are very much of the view of invest in our homes and buy quality over quantity, sometimes we need to take a more chill approach to our budget. So with that in mind, we're sharing our favourite was to achieve that ultra luxurious look for substantially less. Given that refreshing your home not only increases its value but as you'll also want to be spending more time there, then it almost pays for itself - girl math.

Here are our tips to make your home feel more bougie without overspending, a full renovation or enlisting an interior designer.

1. Invest in Art

Artwork is one of the hardest workers in your home, it elevates a room, becomes a talking point, fills an awkward gap, or becomes a focal point, all regardless of the price tag. Decide which one of the above you want it to do as the starting point of your decision, but the best part is, a good piece can have more than one purpose.

2. Floor Length Curtains

Too short curtains look like something out of a horror film. If you want a real luxury look then opt for floor length curtains that just skim the floor. But at the same time don't have them too long that they drag. Approach it like you tailor your clothes, once they fit just right, they are instantly elevated even if they aren't super expensive. Make them extra luxury by having your curtain road 30cm wider than the window and the total curtain width 2.5 to 3 times the width of the curtain rod. A generous fullness ratio allows the fabric to fall into deep, fluid folds, creating a luxurious drape and avoiding the sparse, flat look that comes from using too little material.

3. Deep Clean Your Linens

Your linens make look clean but you'll be surprised how much better they look after a professional clean. Either get them deep cleaned by a professional company or invest in a good quality carpet cleaner for your home, you'll be surprised at how much dirt will come out of your sofa and rugs particularly if you have pets or small children.

4. Don't Scrimp on Rugs

Small rugs are cheap and look exactly that. For a luxurious look, go for a rug fills the space with at least 2 legs of every piece of furniture well on it. Natural fibres are the most luxurious feeling and the longest lasting but if you have an unhealthy love of hot sauce like we do (and a cream rug) then man made fibres are the easiest to keep clean. Go for one big rug rather than multiple small layered ones otherwise you're heading back to the bargain bin feeling.

5. Go Big on Texture

Layering texture throughout the home is your shortcut to luxury. Soft, warm and inviting cushions and generous throws placed over chairs and sofas bring a sense of comfort and makes your home feel instantly welcoming. Tactile, natural fabrics cost more than glossy, synthetic alternatives but the difference is unmistakable, both in how they look and in how they feel when you touch them.

6. Dim The Lights

Harsh lighting is not your friend, no one has a fun time in fitting rooms. Where possible, opt for a mix of table and floor lamps instead. Lower, gentler lighting flatters every space and brings a sense of calm and warmth, exactly the atmosphere you want your home to have.

7. Scent Your Powder Room

There's nothing nicer for you or your guests as walking into the powder room to a lovely fragrance. Air freshener is toxic for you as well as smelling terrible. Instead opt for a well-made, non toxic candle, a reed diffuser with natural oils, or a few drops of essential oil on a ceramic stone to keep the space gently fragranced without overwhelming it.

8. Add Greenery

Adding greenery is one of the simplest ways to bring life and a quiet sense of luxury into your home. Oversized plants give a jungle effect and grouping plants in varying heights and containers elevates the effect, while a few well-placed pots can make a room feel curated rather than cluttered. Beyond aesthetics, greenery also improves the atmosphere, subtly refreshing the air and mood of your home.

9. Hotelify Your Bed

Layering your bed is an effortless way to achieve a plush, hotel‑inspired feel in your bedroom without a full redecoration. Start with a folded duvet and flat sheet, add a mix of fluffy pillows, European shams, a decorative bolster, and a carefully chosen throw, all in harmonious shades. The result is a bedroom that feels luxurious, inviting, and quite frankly, one you won't want to leave.
