We talk a lot about skincare for our faces, but rarely give the same attention when it comes to our bodies. And yet, we expect it to snap into shape come summer, parading beachside with flawless skin, no cellulite and feeling healthy. If there were ever a time to start making the effort your body, it’s summer, when skin is already on show and small luxuries can turn into daily rituals.
Dry Brushing
In the morning if you’re strict, at the end of the day if you’re new. Use a natural bristle brush with long strokes upwards toward the heart. It’s not just for lymphatic drainage, it wakes up the skin, boosts circulation, exfoliates and adds a glow before you’ve even reached for a product.
Body Gua Sha & Self-Massage
Perfect for after dry brushing as the skin and lymphatic are already doing their thing. Use a body gua sha with a generous amount of oil. Focus on areas where tension hides - shoulders, hips, calves, as well as areas that hold cellulite - thighs and ass and well as helping remove water retention on the stomach. This isn’t only about sculpting, take the time to learn the curves of your own body. Work slowly, let it feel relaxing, releasing and indulgent.
Face Skincare, But for the Body
Why only use products on your face? The formulas that support great skin, exfoliating toners, antioxidant serums and retinoids, work just as well on the rest of our body. The skin on our body has the same basic needs as the skin on our face, it ages, it dehydrates, it reacts to the sun, stress, hormones, and environment. And yet, we often reserve our best products, our best efforts, for the 5% of our skin that people see the most. It doesn’t make much sense. And honestly, if we're already investing in products that make a difference, why not let the rest of our skin benefit too?
This isn’t about turning our body routine into a 10-step process. It’s about paying attention to areas that often get overlooked, chest, shoulders, arms, thighs, and yes, our bums. They deserve more than an occasional scrub and a rushed layer of lotion.
If you’re dealing with breakouts, rough texture, pigmentation, dullness on the body or you'd just like to take the best care possible, try this:
- Exfoliating toners (like lactic acid or glycolic) help smooth texture on the backs of arms, thighs, and bum. Swipe on post-shower a few times a week - it makes a noticeable difference.
- Niacinamide serums help even tone and reduce redness. Great for shoulders, chest, and upper thighs - anywhere the skin could use a little refining.
- Retinoids can help firm and resurface skin over time. Try them on the backs of thighs, hips, or your bum - anywhere you want smoother, more even skin. Use a lower-strength formula and follow with a thick moisturiser or body oil.
- Vitamin C helps brighten hyperpigmentation, especially useful for inner thighs, underarms, or post-ingrown shadows.
The key is consistency, not intensity. You don’t need a separate set of products, just extend what you already trust. One pump of serum, spread between your thighs or across your bum, is effort well spent. And don’t forget the finishing touches, body oil or shea butter to lock everything in and a few minutes of self-massage to connect back to your body.
Body Oils, Butters & Towels
Choose oils that soak in without stickiness, because no one has the desire to feel like we sat in a frying pan on a 45-degree day. We're opting for cold-pressed sweet almond oil, squalane, or pure shea butter that melts in our palms. Apply to damp skin with firm strokes, using a linen or waffle towel to gently press and seal in the moisture.
Red Light Therapy
Once you’re dry, or go naked if you don't have full windows, take five to ten minutes under a red light panel. Red light therapy penetrates deep into the skin, stimulating collagen production, improving circulation, and reducing inflammation. Over time, it can help with everything from fine lines to muscle recovery to the appearance of cellulite. But the benefits go beyond the surface. It’s also a powerful mood-booster. The gentle warmth and soft glow create a moment of stillness that feels restorative in every sense. Think of it as sunshine without the UV. Just a few minutes a day can make a real difference, not just in how your skin looks, but in how your whole body feels.
Rebounding
Just a few minutes every morning on a mini trampoline, also called rebounding if you're into that side of wellness, can completely shift how your body feels throughout the day. We're not one for following weird wellness trends but this one actually works and feels fun whilst you do it. The low-impact movement that gently stimulates the lymphatic system, which is key for flushing out toxins, reducing inflammation, and supporting immune health. Unlike more intense forms of cardio, rebounding is soft on the joints but still gets your heart rate up, oxygen flowing, and blood circulating, all without the stress from too many high-intensity workouts.
Movement & Steps
A real summer body ritual? Moving it. Not punishing, not urgent. Just consistent, joyful motion with the gratitude of being able to do so. Walks in the early morning or at sunset. Stretching. Pilates. Swimming. Ten thousand steps not for the tracker, but for how it makes you feel. Movement is circulation. Circulation is glow.
Make the everyday feel beautiful. The products don’t need to be fancy. But the feeling, that soft, cared-for stillness, should be. Your summer bodycare is less of a setup and more of a permission slip. To feel held. To feel present. To feel, in every sense, at home in your body.
