We're bringing back the dinner party. Nothing says love like preparing dinner for your closest friends and family. It doesn't always have to be a full production with place cards and a seating plan, and if we're honest, that's a little too formal for our liking anyway. Our aim is a table full of laughter, conversation, dishes that will be remembered and a little champagne. Because when its there not a time to have champagne. These are the dishes that feel like a dinner party even when it’s a Tuesday and are just as easy and simple to make. They’re delicious, built for second helpings, passed plates, olive oil on linen, and wine poured mid-story.
1. Slow-Roasted Tomatoes with Burrata & Basil Oil
The easiest kind of luxury. Slow-roast cherry tomatoes until they collapse into themselves, then spoon over torn burrata. Drizzle with basil oil, add Maldon flaky smoked salt, and serve with grilled sourdough.
2. Baked Feta with Honey, Thyme & Walnuts
Add a block of feta to a dutch oven, generously drizzle olive oil over the top and bake in the oven until golden at the edges. Remove and top with honey, toasted walnuts, and fresh thyme. Serve still warm with crackers or warm pita.
3. Lemony Roast Chicken
Roast a whole chicken with butter, preserved lemon, garlic, and whichever herbs you have on hand. Let it rest, then scatter over some arugula or flat-leaf parsley. Serve with roasted crushed potatoes and dressed salad leaves. Let the table serve itself, everyone eating with their hands, fingers greasy with flavour. It feels generous.
4. Pasta, but with Restraint
Linguine with anchovy, lemon zest, chilli, and garlic breadcrumbs. Or orecchiette with broccoli rabe, olive oil, and grated pecorino. Nothing creamy or heavy or sleep inducing. Just homemade pasta and good ingredients that shine through.
5. Charred Cabbage with Tahini & Pomegranate
Halve a cabbage, char it deeply on the grill, then roast until soft inside. Slice and plate with tahini, lemon, pomegranate molasses, and arils. Add herbs and toasted seeds. Stunning.
6. Warm Lentil & Herb Salad with Toasted Nuts
Cook puy lentils until soft but still firm, toss with handfuls of whatever herbs you have on hand, a sharp vinaigrette, and toasted hazelnuts or almonds. Optional but excellent: goat cheese or roasted carrots on top. Serve warm or room temp.
7. Stone Fruit with Mascarpone & Crushed Pistachios
The dessert that tastes like summer but requires very little effort, perfect to end the meal with something sweet but not too heavy. Bake or poach peaches or plums with honey and grated orange peel. Serve in their syrup with a spoonful of mascarpone and crushed pistachios. Finish with sea salt and a drizzle of extra syrup.
